Notes | Emmy Bridgwater was a member of the Birmingham Group of Surrealists and took part in the International Surrealist show in Paris in 1947. She experimented with automatic drawing as a means of tapping into the subconscious. Her rapidly painted works have a spontaneous and urgent quality as she tried to record the fleeting sensations and imagery of dreams. | | Purchased with assistance from Resource (VandA Purchase Grant Fund) and the Friends of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery. |
