Notes | Over 2,000 years ago, this figure of a dancer was likely to have been buried with its wealthy owner. During the Han dynasty, burials were as lavish as a family could afford. The tomb was regarded as a dead person's dwelling. This resulted in the tradition of burying a person's possessions with them. | | Franklin Bequest, 2006. |
