Notes | One of a pair of blue and white dishes decorated with a crab and four fishes among aquatic weeds. The four fish represented here are different types of goldfish. The crab with the larger claw is the male crab. Fish, 'yu' in Chinese, is a symbol of good fortune and wealth. A whole crab means completely full. Together, fish and crab ensure that there will be plenty to eat. | | Franklin Bequest, 2006. |
