Notes | The term 'Famille Rose' refers to the glaze and means 'the pink family' and describes the use of pink enamel.
From about 1720, Europeans wanted Chinese porcelain designed and decorated in Western taste. Prints, book illustrations, drawings and models were sent to China to be copied. This saucer (and its matching tea bowl) depict the crucifixion of Christ in Golgotha, a hill outside Jerusalem.
