Biography for Benedetto Gennari the Younger
EducationTrained by his uncle Il Geurcino (1591-1666) in Bologna. MemberA founder member of the Bolognese Accademia Clementina, 1709. EmploymentAfter his training Gennari travelled to France in 1672, where he painted commissions for the French aristocracy. In 1674 he travelled to England, becoming court painter at the English Court of Charles II. When the Catholic court of James II was exiled in 1689, Gennari went with them to Saint-Germain-en-Laye, near Paris, returning to Bologna in 1692. He painted portraits, and a wide range of mythological and religious scenes.
