Biography for Claude Lorrain
EmploymentFrench landscape painter and draughtsman, Claude Lorraine lived in Rome from 1627. He was famous for his landscapes and was especially interested in the change of light and atmosphere, spending much time sketching outdoors at dawn and dusk. To prevent forgeries of his work Claude recorded all his paintings in a folio known as the Liber Veritatis, now in the collection of the Duke of Devonshire. |
