Conroy Maddox was a member of the Birmingham Group of Surrealists and one of Britain's leading Surrealists.In the late 1930s he travelled to Paris where he came to know the artists and poets of the Surrealist group, including Max Ernst (1891-1976) who had a strong influence on him.
