Biography for David Bomberg
ChildhoodCopyright to his works held by Mrs Dinora Davies-Rees and Juliet Lamont. EducationBomberg was apprenticed to a Lithographer and took night-classes by Walter Bayes at the City & Guilds Institute. He then attended evening classes held at the Westminster School of Art by Sickert and then at the Central School with Lethaby. Between 1911 and 1913 he attended the Slade enabled by the Jewish Educational Aid Society after he won the Tonks Prize for drawing a fellow student. MemberA founder of the London Group. Though he exhibited with the Vorticists in 1915, he avoided any formal connection with them. Later a member of the Borough Group. TravelsVisited Paris in 1913 and met among others Picasso, Modigliani and Derain. From 1930 travelled to USSR, Morocco, Spain and Greece.
