Biography for Howard Hodgkin
EducationOn his return to England, Hodgkin was educated at Eton College. He later studied at Camberwell School of Art (1949-1950) and at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham (1950-1954). AwardsHe became a Fellow in creative art at Brasenose College, Oxford 1976-7. He was winner of the Turner Prize in 1985 and became a Trustee of the Tate Gallery and the National Gallery. Hodgkin's work was again recognised when he was appointed C.B.E in 1977 and then knighted in 1992. EmploymentHe was part-time assistant art master at Charterhouse School from 1954-6 before returning to Bath Academy of Art to teach from 1956 to 1966; subsequently he was on the staff of Chelsea School of Art.
