Biography for Louis Comfort Tiffany
Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) came from a U.S. jewellery making background, studied painting in Paris, and established himself as an interior decorator in New York. He took to designing and manufacturing stained glass, mosaics, tiles and vessel glass. Initially he had furnaces on Long Island, assisted by The Nash Family who provided technical knowledge (Arthur Nash had formerly worked in Stourbridge, England). The Tiffany Glass Company was incorporated in 1885 as Tiffany's interests continued to expand. Favrile and lustred glass are particularly associated with Tiffany, and the glass is much imitated.
