Biography for Mike Dodd
EducationMike Dodd studied pottery at school under Donald Potter (a student of Eric Gill), then took a Natural Science degree at Cambridge (1962-65), before attending Hammersmith School of Art (1966-67). EmploymentIn 1967 Dodd set up the first of two workshops in Sussex producing porcelain and stoneware. In 1975 he moved his pottery to Cornwall building a Korean climbing kiln and making glazes from local granites, clays and wood ashes. In 1979 he spent six months in Peru working with Indians to set up a wood kiln at the Amuesha project started by Harry Davis (1910-1986). In 1986 he moved his pottery again, this time to Cumbria, again concentrating on using local materials in glazes. From 1982-86 he was Head of Ceramics at Cumbria College of Art. His last of several moves has been to his current pottery at the Dove Workshops, Glastonbury.
