Biography for Peter Phillips
Phillips studied at Moseley Road Secondary School of Art, Birmingham 1953-55, Birmingham College of Art 1955-59 and at the Royal College of Art, London 1959-62.
Phillips travelled to France, Switzerland and Italy in 1959, France in 1961, Spain, the United States and North Africa in 1964, Canada and USA in 1965 and settled in Zurich to live and work in 1966. He travelled regularly including visits to France, England, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium and Africa, Seychelles, Mexico and Ceylon from 1967 onwards.
Phillips was a student at the Royal College of Art with David Hockney and Allen Jones. He began to use airbrush in his paintings to imitate the immaculate tone-work of commercial illustrations. With the help of Chris Prater at the Kelpra Press he experimented with screen-printing which proved to be the ideal medium for his work.
