Biography for Sir George James Frampton
EducationSir George James Frampton trained as an architect at the Lambeth School of Art, and at the Royal Academy. In 1887 he won the RA Gold Medal and a travelling scholarship to Paris. AwardsElected ARA 1894.Knighted in 1908. EmploymentFrampton is known today as a sculptor who achieved a world-wide reputation, producing marble and bronze busts and statues. He was particularly noted for his use of colour and combinations of exotic materials, such as mother of pearl, ivory, bronze and jewels. He worked on many architectural and public sculpture projects within the United Kingdom including works in Glasgow, Liverpool, and Newcastle. His most popular sculptural works are 'Peter Pan' (1912) in Kensington Gardens, London, and the Lions in the Edward VII Galleries at the British Museum.
