Biography for Sir Hubert von Herkomer

Education

Hubert von Herkomer studied art at Southampton, Munich, and at the College of Art in South Kensington. He settled in London in 1870.

Awards

Knighted in 1907.

Employment

Sir Hubert von Herkomer is known as a painter, printmaker and as a producer/director of silent films. As well as painting, he produced engravings and metalwork. He was Slade Professor of fine art at Oxford (1889-94). He ran a film studio and Art School at Bushey, Hertfordshire.
