Epstein studied in New York (1896-1902), and with Rodin (1840-1917) in Paris (1902-04),

Awards

Knighted, 1954.

Employment

Epstein moved to London in 1905. His early religious subjects often caused controversy, he is also well-known for his many portrait busts of his contemporaries. Other works include the Oscar Wilde Memorial of 1911in Pere-Lachaise Cemetary, Paris. Two local sculptures are St Michael and the Devil of 1960, on the East wall of Coventry Cathedral, and Ecce Homo of 1969, situated in the ruins of the old Cathedral.
