Biography for Walter Howell Deverell
EducationStarted work in a solicitors office. He left it for art soon after, entering the Royal Academy Schools in 1846. EmploymentDeverell was appointed Assistant Master of the Government School of Design in 1848. He was good friends with Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882). He was proposed as a member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1850, though the nomination was never confirmed. He exhibited 4 works at the Royal Academy between 1847-53. His life was short, dying at the age of 27 after a year of continued illness. |
