Notes | This Italian standing bowl was made using the method of free blowing. Air was blown down a metal tube, that had a blob of glass at its end, to create a bubble. The ribbed decoration was applied to the bowl before blowing was complete, it therefore expanded with the bowl. It is decorated with a fish-scale pattern and spots of blue enamel, and with an edging of opaque grey-white enamel. The folded trumpet foot would have been blown separately. | | Purchased, South Kensington Museum, 1872. |
