Notes | This type of pottery is often called biscuit ware and it comes mainly from the Chiriqui region of Panama. This is the most common type of pottery from Panama and southern Costa Rica. It is always light buff to orange in colour and never has any painted decoration. However the fabric is so fine and thin walled and the applied decoration so delicately executed that it has a simple elegance despite its plainness. Some of the applied decoration is probably influenced by the traditions and styles of local goldworking. | | Presented by Mrs J J Watson, 1951. |
