Horse Bit and Cheek Pieces

Luristan is a province of central, western Iran which produced a distinctive style of bronze-working between 1200-700 BC. Little is known about the people who made these bronzes because most of then have come from graves which were not scientifically excavated. It is known that they were a hardy mountain people who lived in the plains surrounded by the high ranges of the Zagros mountains. As well as horse trappings like this they also made distinctive types of axes, elaborate pins and other ornaments decorated with grotesque animal motifs.
