Notes | Born in Merloch/Kreis Mayen in 1930, Matthias Klering first trained as a glass maker and in 1980 set up his own studio in Cologne, since 1977 he has been engaged in lamp working. This technique of manipulating glass rods in an open flame was exploited by makers of fugendstil art glass during the last decade of the 19th century. Klering’s work gives a very clear illustration of the skill and co-ordination necessary when working in an open flame. | | Purchased from the artist. |
