Notes | This ‘What-Not’ was purchased for the Palace of Mysore, India. A similar version dated September 1882 is drawn in a volume of Osler’s glass furniture designs, in the Museum archives. Osler had a showroom in Calcutta, India. They sold to the British community in India and made pieces to order for Indian palaces and temples. Palaces could be equipped with whole suites of cut glass furniture, including chairs, sofas, thrones, tables, clocks, lamps, staircase balusters, wall lights and standing chandeliers. | | Purchased with grant aid from the Friends of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, and the MGC/VandA Purchase Grant Fund, and the National Art Collections Fund |
