This bronze medal was struck to commemorate the death of Matthew Boulton on 17th August, 1809. Each of his employees at the Soho Mint were given a medal by his son Matthew Robinson Boulton. At the time of Matthew Boulton Senior's death it could be said that the most productive years of the Soho Mint were over.
