This epergne was made at the Soho Manufactory owned by Birmingham industrialist Matthew Boulton (1728-1809). Epergne’s were a type of centrepiece for a sideboard or dining table. Typically, they have a number of branching arms which hold small dishes, cruets or salt cellars.
