Notes

Together Samuel and Nathaniel Buck produced 89 engraved town panoramas known as 'Buck's Views', the main series was published in 1749. The engraving based on this drawing was not published until 1753. The Buck brothers show one of the earliest topographical views of the town which today has grown into the second city in Britain, in terms of population. When advertised for sale in 1753, the engraving which differs from the drawing, sold for 5 shillings, a considerable sum at the time.

Purchased by Subscribers from Bernard Halliday, 1934.
