Notes | This is an eating bowl. It was used in a Sussex farmhouse. It is made from elm. This bowl is one from an original set of 71 bowls which came from a farmhouse in Sussex. The oldest ones date probably from the 17th century, but they are difficult to pin down because when one bowl became too worn, another was made in the same pattern. Their small size indicates that they were probably used by children who perhaps worked as servants on the farm. | Purchased from Edward H Pinto, 1965. |
