Notes | The handles on prehistoric swords rarely survive because they were often made of perishable organic material. In this case however the hilt was cast out of bronze and so has survived. It was made separately from the sword. It is hollow and was cast in one piece. It is attached to the tang by three rivets and there are another three rivets securing it to the shoulders of the blade. | | Purchased from the Blackmore Museum, Salisbury, Wiltshire. |
