Notes | Mrs Anne Hull Grundy donated a large collection of jewellery to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. This was one of a number of donations she made to museums in this country. She was concerned that each collection she gave to a museum should suit its manufacturing history and existing collections. Hence she wished her Birmingham Collection to reflect the work of Birmingham jewellers. This silver brooch made by Birmingham based George Hunt is reminiscent of an ancient Celtic annular brooch which would have been used to fasten the clothing of the wearer. A handful of material would have been pulled through the hole in the centre, the pin would have been pushed though the material and as a result the fabric and the brooch would work together to hold the garment in place. | | Presented by Mrs Anne Hull Grundy, 1982. |
