Notes | Amanda Brights work has been inspired by trips to Indonesia and Australia where she was impressed by the directness and simplicity with which many materials are used. During the early 1980’s and 1990’s she used sheet steel etched into strips, patinated and treated with various chemicals and woven together into spiral and fan shapes with soft iron wire, which gives them a certain flexibility when handled. More recently she has been using wire (sometimes combined with gold leaf) in woven sculptural forms, made in groups or individual pieces, which are surprisingly light and soft. | | Contemporary Art Society Special Collection Scheme |
