Notes | After training in precision engineering in Switzerland, Stofer began working with wire forms, initially concentrating on jewellery, and moved to Britain in 1987. He has led the metalwork course at Camberwell College of Art for several years. His elaborate and playful wire constructions often call our attitudes to art and craft into question. They deliberately confuse our sense of values, elevating the apparently worthless to the status of Art Object, or subverting our reverence of the hand-made by emphasising the industrial nature of much metalwork production. | | Contemporary Art Society Special Collection Scheme |
