Notes

One of two dawings in Birmingham's collection for the oil painting of 'The Hours' at Sheffield Museums Trust (1870-83), where Burne-Jones explores the hours of the day with an 'Albert Moore-like group of figures'.

Burne Jones described The Hours as; 'a row of six little women that typify the hours of the day from waking to sleep. their little knees look so funny in a row that wit descended on me from above , and I called them ' the lapse of time'.

Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903.
