Notes | The larger of these two studies bears some resemblance to the head of the left figure in the watercolour 'The Lament' (1866, William Morris Gallery, Walthanstow, London). The sheet as a whole shares the cool lyricism of the watercolour, which is a milestone in the transition of Burne-Jones's style from the overly medieval to the more timelessly classical. | | Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903. |
