Notes

This is a design for a stained glass window executed by Morris and Co for the Church of John the Evangelist, Torquay, Devon (1865).

Bill Waters has identified the Birmingham drawing as a preparatory sketch for the transfer drawing now in a Private Collection (sold at Bonhams, Knightsbridge in 1986), which was squared up and finished.

This cartoon also appears in the Morris & Co Windows Book, 1940P604.5, as number 150a.

Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
