Notes

This is a design for stained glass produced by Morris & Co for the Church of St John the Evangelist, Torquay, Devon (1865).

St Nicholas, wearing a cope and mitre, stands on the left, turned slightly to the right, with a nude child on his left arm, and holds a pastoral staff in his right hand. St Stephen, in dalmatic and wearing a maniple, stands on the right, holding a palm-branch in his left hand, and an open bopok is in his right hand, with the stones of his martyrdom on his head and right shoulder. It is interesting to note that St. Nicholas's feast day is Christmas, and St. Stephen's feast day is 26 December.

This cartoon also appears in the Morris & Co Windows Book, 1940P604.2, as number 627.

Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
