From a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris' 'The Earthly Paradise'.

In the final wood engraving print the figure of Cupid is more upright and the position of the moon and cloud differ. The figure of Psyche is also different than in the wood engraving, where she faces the viewer, seated on a low stool rather than on the bed.
