From a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris' 'The Earthly Paradise'. This drawing differs very considerably from the two wood engravings finally executed, where the figures are parallel to the picture plane as in a frieze, instead of curving away from the viewer as in this sketch.
