Notes

Mourning, or memento mori, rings were often bequeathed in wills to close friends and family to be worn at the funeral and as a reminder to the wearer of the departed.This 17th century ring is decorated with an enamel skeleton holding in its right hand a bone, and in its left hand an hour glass. It is inscribed with the date of 6th June 1690.

Bequeathed by Thomas George Barnett, 1935.
