Notes | In 1849 the grounds of Bingley House on Broad Street, Birmingham was the temporary home of 'An Exhibition of the Manufacturers of Birmingham and the Midland Counties'. This exhibition was visited by Charles Darwin and Prince Albert, and the exhibition of design and industrial art probably influenced the setting up of the Great Exhibition in 1851. Another industrial exhibition was staged in 1865 in Bingley Hall, which had been built in 1860 in the grounds of the old Bingley House. | | Purchased from B Kent |
