Notes

In Greek mythology the water nymph Thetis is the mother of the hero Achilles. After the death of Achilles the Achaean people were mourning over his body. They were terrified when water nymphs rose out of the sea wailing. The counselor Nestor prevents the Achaeans from fleeing by explaining that Thetis and her nymphs are mourning the hero.
