Paraffin oil stoves for heating and cooking became available from the 1880s. Oil-fired cooking ranges were never very popular in Britain, as gas was widely available in towns and cities.
The Albion Lamp Works in Birmingham were one of the only firms to specialise in making these products - another example of innovation and specialisation in Birmingham's metalworking industries.
