Notes | In the 1950s Terry Frost settled in St. Ives, Cornwall. His abstract paintings are full of references to the coastal landscape of Cornwall; the hulls of boats, breakwaters and wave forms. In this picture he works with a narrow range of shapes and colours, the bold mass of black butting into a row of delicate vertical lines. The repeated arcs of the brushstrokes convey a sense of rhythm and movement. | | Presented by the Friends of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, 1977. |
