Notes

Sir George James Frampton is best known today as a sculptor who achieved a world-wide reputation. He was particularly noted for his use of colour and combinations of exotic materials, such as mother of pearl, ivory, bronze and jewels. He married Christabel Cockerell (b.1860) in 1893. She was herself an artist who exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy, painted Frampton's portrait and was, in turn, sculpted by him. This neckpiece was deeply personal to them both. In the centre of the main roundel the word 'Christabel' can be seen, along with the date of their marriage.

Presented by Mrs Anne Hull Grundy.
