EmploymentWilliam Thomas Blackband was pupil, assistant, and in 1924 the successor to Arthur Gaskin (1862-1928) as Headmaster of the School for Jewellers and Silversmiths in Vittoria Street, Birmingham. He was the most skilled goldsmith associated with the Birmingham School. His work is characterised by great detail and technical skill, by romanticism of imagery and conception, and a concern for the solderless granulation technique as practiced by the Etruscans.
