Biography for Emmy Bridgwater
EducationEmmy Bridgwater ttended the Birmingham School of Arts & Crafts under Bernard Fleetword-Walker. She later studied at the local art school in offered and later still she was at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London. MemberOne of five artists who formed the Birmingham Surrealist Group, also a member of the Artists' International Association. EmploymentEmmy Bridgwater was a member of the Birmingham Group of Surrealists and took part in the International Surrealist show in Paris in 1947. She lived in Birmingham most of her life, paying her way with underaking secretarial work. Family responsibilities prevented her from pursuing her career.Since the mid 1980s her work has been gradually rediscovered and researched and she is now acknowledged as one of the leading British surrealists.
